How Grella and Spellbook approach different legal tasks
Keep the decision specific. Reviewing a negotiated clause, extracting a document answer, and checking a factual assertion are not interchangeable workflows.
- A contract rule is not a factual finding
Spellbook Playbooks can specify preferred wording, fallback positions, risk levels, and approval requirements. Grella’s issues and assessments organise analysis of a matter; they are not the same reusable contract-rule engine.
- A View is not another name for every table
Grella Views organise existing documents, facts, parties, or issues. Tabular Review separately analyses documents against questions. A saved Review answer is not automatically a shared Fact. Compare the actual row, evidence, and edit ownership with the contract-report workflow in Associate.
- Precedent, a standard, and market evidence are different
Library retrieves drafting language. Benchmarks checks coverage against configurable standards. Compare to Market compares terms across similar agreements. Grella does not offer that market-data product in the reviewed baseline.

Distinguish negotiation changes from changes to the matter
A counterparty’s markup asks for a contract decision. A new source, corrected Fact, or changed Party/Issue relationship can alter a factual matter in different ways. Each needs its own review and follow-through; Grella does not treat every matter change as a universal rewrite.

Check the offered package, not an old product description
Choose one tool, both, or neither based on the required work and the total arrangement. Combining products is worthwhile only when the additional value exceeds the extra cost and handoffs. Compare the complete offered cost; unknown pricing favours neither product. Migration and retraining costs matter when replacing an existing setup, not as an automatic advantage for a new buyer.
- Spellbook pricing and access
Spellbook lists the Word Add-In and Associate together in its suite, quotes pricing by licensed team size, and advertises a 7-day free trial. It includes individual users and larger teams; it does not publish a universal dollar rate on that page.
Get comparable written quotes for users, usage, support, exports, and renewal. This page establishes no lower-cost Grella claim.
- Tabular Reports has an account-wide allowance
The help page states that 500 documents are included per account, pooled across users and tables, with possible additional fees above that allowance. It is not 500 documents per seat and is not a measured throughput or accuracy result.
- Spellbook is not Word-only
Associate runs in a browser. Spellbook also documents a Google Docs add-in. The shared installation guide describes a Chrome extension for suggested edits, while the Google Docs beta FAQ lists redlining and other feature gaps.
These descriptions need release-specific reconciliation. Confirm the exact add-in, extension, permissions, and supported features; do not promise full Word parity or describe Google Docs as unsupported.
- Treat broader contract-lifecycle promises separately
Autonomous Contract Management (ACM) describes intake, negotiation updates, and post-signature monitoring. The linked page still solicits early access and describes rollout to selected teams. Verify your entitlement rather than assume universal availability from a planned rollout season.
ACM is not silently counted as available in every Spellbook subscription. Grella is not a contract lifecycle management replacement either.
